Snow Day

It is safe to say we no longer live in the desert!  In November, temperatures dropped below freezing and a storm blew through leaving us with 3-4 inches of snow!  While the kids were thrilled with this weather I realized the complications it can bring in driving OR just walking down your driveway to get the mail!  None the less, I was just as smitten as our kids with the excitement and wonder that snow covering the ground surrounding us brought.  I've never lived in a place where it snowed, and when I did see snow it was while snow skiing or the few months I stayed in Denver prior to getting married.  It really was fun to see!!

After going to church and eating lunch out, we brought the kids home, dressed them in their snow suits, which thank the Lord I ordered a few weeks prior and let them loose in the backyard!  First up, was making a snowman!  The snow was the perfect consistency to roll up the huge mounds of snow and place them on top of each other.  Before I could bring out a hat and scarf and a carrot, Gavin ran and tackled the snowman to the ground, leaving only a pile of plush snow to jump on!  Next, the kids and Brooks started a snowball fight!  It was precious watching how hard the kids giggled when their snow ball would hit Brooks or myself.  Poor Brooklyn had so many layers of clothes on and gloves that didn't fit her when she'd fall down, she couldn't get herself up!  We're all getting use to walking around in the snow.  The day before on my way to the mailbox, I didn't see a patch of ice-- I've never had to look for that type of thing, so I genuinely didn't see it was there.  Well, I slipped and fell flat on my back, and since our drive way slopes down, I didn't stop until I landed in the street.  It hurt at first and I was sore throughout the day, but I have to admit it was kinda funny!!  Lesson learned.  When bad weather comes in, look for ice on the ground!

After going to a Thanksgiving Feast at church, we came home, grabbed some snow from outside and made snow ice cream!  The kids were so excited and couldn't believe they could eat it!  The ice cream was a huge hit that they've been asking for ever since!  I'm sure we'll have plenty more opportunities to see, play, and eat snow this winter!!
