B is 3 months

Our sweet baby girl is 3 months old and is starting to move out of the newborn/infant stage.  She's become very aware of her surroundings, always looking to see whose making noises around her and prefers to be near people.    She loves when her brothers play by her and has the biggest smile when they talk to her.
A few of B's stats:  She weighs 12 lbs 3 ounces and is 23 inches long and is finally wearing 3 month clothes.  She takes 5oz bottles every 3-4 hours and sleeps swaddled (and in her crib during the day instead of around the house in the nap nanny or bouncer).

She started laughing this month and has THE MOST CONTAGIOUS, CUTEST laugh ever.  She actually sounds like Miles does when he laughs, which is amazing.  One way to guarantee a life out of her is when Brooks tickles her.  Check it out.

She doesn't mind getting poked and prodded at by Miles and appreciates when Gavin hold her.

I finally finished a bow holder I made B that I started on weeks ago.  I got the idea from a friends little girls bow holder years ago and even made a friend of mine one last year.  I love it and can't help but laugh that it's already filled up and I had to make a few extra ribbons to go inside her closet with excess bows!  We don't leave home without a bow in her hair so it's an important accessory to have!

My friend, Steph, made Brooklyn her own quilt and I'm in LOVE!  I love that Steph spent her time in sewing class and at home to work on this and even learned how to applique to make the bird in the center.  I'm in love with this and know we'll cherish it forever.  I feel like this picture doesn't do the quilt justice, so just trust me when I say... it's AMAZING!!

Have I mentioned that Miles pokes Brooklyn.  He's learning to be soft and gentle and actually prefers hugging and kissing her versus terrorizing her.  He always feels the need to put her pacifer back in her mouth when it's by her side.  Hey- he's being helpful!

Another big thing Brooklyns done this month is roll over from her tummy to her back.  She loves tummy time-- as long as we time it just right.  She'll hang out on her tummy for at least 10 minutes just playing and not fussing.  She lasts as long as she can until she rolls over!  Pretty Cute!!

This is Gavin's doing.  Him and Miles were dressed up and they wanted Brooklyn to be dressed up too!

One of my new favorite pics of B!  She was styling at our company's BBQ a few weeks ago!  So girly.  We're loving it!!

Brooklyn had her 3 month ultrasound last week and we went to her urologist appointment a few days ago and were sad to find out her condition is not fixing itself.  It's actually getting worse.  We have one more ultrasound in 3 weeks for a last attempt to see if any changes will occur for the better and then we'll move forward with potential plans to remove/fix the obstruction/blockage that is in her kidney.

All in a Days Work

He's cute!

He's funny!

He's rambunctious!

He's sweet!

He's entertaining!

He's tender hearted!

He's extremely ticklish!

He's playful!

He's a climber! (but you already knew that)

He GETS INTO EVERYTHING!!!

He's our Miles.

 Nutella all over his face.

Getting through the barricade I attempted to make to keep him from pressing the water button and spilling water everywhere.  At least, this time, he had a cup to put the water in.
** I'm happy to say we sold this water cooler yesterday and we're going to get one with a lock on it.  I'm over fighting this battle.  The words "no touch" don't mean anything to him right now!

Playing in the mud!  He was having so much splashing around and getting dirty.  Gavin and I loved watching him.  He was in his element.  When the landscape guy came and turned off the sprinklers that were watering the plants, Miles moved onto the water hose that was spewing water out of the faucet.

I went to the kitchen to make Brooklyn a bottle and came back to find him on top of the changing table.  This was a first for him and I have NO IDEA how he climbed up this without knocking it over on top of him.  Needless to say, we will be bolting this to the wall today.

Another first..... I went to the bathroom, came out and couldn't find Miles.  Gavin and I looked everywhere for him.  The house doors were closed so we knew he wasn't outside.  The door to the kitchen was closed so we knew he wasn't in there.  The gate on the stairs was closed so we knew he couldn't have gone upstairs.  So... where did he go?  Inside the bottom, smallest part of our stroller.  Don't let the first photo fool you... he was laughing and smiling, but my camera caught the middle of it, making it look like he was panicked.  He even managed to turn himself around to look out of each side.

Last Weekend Off

I can't explain enough how living here has caused us to go through many adjustments.  Some good.  Some not so good.  One of the areas that we've had to deal with and I have struggled with A LOT and don't always seem to come to terms with it is how much Brooks has to work.  For the project he's on and what they are doing, he along with all the other men here work ALL THE TIME.  For months, Brooks never had a weekend off.  Other months, he was given 2 days off.  Sometimes he couldn't come home until very late in the evening and most of the time he leaves the house around 4:30am.  I'll be honest and say that I hate it and sometimes I feel like I'm a single parent.  However, I know that Brooks' hates being away from us just as much and it's not his choosing to not see the kids or me days in a row.  He does make the best of it and when he is home with us.... he's here and ours and does THE BEST JOB being a dad and husband.

Saying all of that.. when the opportuntiy comes up for Brooks to have two days off in a row, we want to maximize that time with him as much as we can.  So, two weeks ago, he was given his last 2 days off in a row as well as his last weekend off for the next few months (other then his 3 weeks of vacation this summer with us in the USA) so we scheduled a trip to Bahrain, again.

We had a blast.  Our first day we went to an outdoor water park in Bahrain, called Lost Paradise.  The kids loved it.  We loved it.  There was a huge kiddie play area with big slides and little slides-- slides both Gavin and Miles could play on and enjoy!  We spent time on the lazy river riding floats and rafts and even used the time to help Gavin with his swimming while the water pushed him forward.  It was great!  Brooks and Gavin got to ride a really big slide and I was so shocked that Gavin wasn't scared and just went with it.  We spent most of the day at the water park.. the boys didn't get naps, but were busy playing and having fun it never bothered them at all.

After the water park, we decided to go eat dinner before heading to our hotel, so we found a local mexican restaurant we heard had delicious food and enjoyed a crazy, fun dinner.  We ordered various dishes that were actually extremely close to tasting like mexican food we'd get in Texas! We LOVED it.  The kids were bouncing off the walls from the long day and not getting naps so we ate and ran!

We got settled into our room at The Gulf Hotel,  bathed the kids, and everyone was out by 9:00pm.

We woke up the next morning and decided to go eat at one of our favorite breakfast places, Ric's.  Can't say enough about the bacon!

We rented a car to help us get around and sadly, not all of our car seats would fit.  Gavin got to ride around like a big boy.

After breakfast, we got back in our bathing suits and spent the morning at our hotels swimming pool, that was complete with a kids play area, slides, and major waterfalls.  Once again, the kids had a ball and amazed us with their endless amounts of energy and never getting tired of swimming or sliding!

The hotel was GORGEOUS!!  Almost breathtaking outside.

After swimming and eating lunch at another favorite restaurant, a small French Cafe called Lilou's.  Outside the cafe, there was a parade of camels put on display each representing something different.  They were massive and decorated, painted with amazing images.  Gavin wanted to walk underneath one to see if he'd poop.  Random.  Haha.

We spent the rest of our afternoon walking around, shopping at one of the malls.  We tried going to another movie, but couldn't find one that we wanted to the kids to see.  We did realize our double stroller could turn into a triple stroller in dire situations and it was AWESOME!!

Our weekend trip was wonderful and we loved getting to spend uninterrupted time together as a family and enjoying one another and getting to have some fun!!

3 Kids

Lately, it seems like I've gotten the question "What's it like having 3 kids?" a lot.  So much that it made me actually stop and think about what life is like with 3 kids.  Along with that question, more then one person has followed up their question with the statement, "oh, well, you have help so I'm sure it's not that big of a deal."  Okay, so while I know those people weren't insinuating that I don't have to do anything (at least I hope not), it still caught me off guard.  Do people really assume I don't do anything?!  While Delia is a HUGE help and I don't have to worry about the house stuff and I have the ability to go grocery shopping, pick up Gavin, or attend a ladies get together without 2 kids (usually I take Brooklyn with me since Miles can be a handful for even one person to tend to) I'm still constantly taking care of 3 kids in some way just like every other mom is.  I appreciate not having to stay awake late at night folding laundry or worry about the ever piling dishes in the sink and get to spend my time doing other things like preventing Miles from playing with the lamp shades, telephones, toilet water, hot stove and oven, etc or mop up the chocolate milk that Gavin spilled because he HAD to have his drink in a "coffee mug" and Miles got to it once Gavin walked away.  I give baths to kids sometimes twice a day after eating popsicles outside or going to the pool in the morning then playing on the beach at night.

Everything seems to be non stop.  It's constant.  With 2 kids, I felt like there was always some kind of down time, now... NOT.SO.MUCH!  I love my kids and am enjoying everyday with them, but boy this is by far NUTS.  It's CRAZY & HECTIC & CHAOTIC.  It's UNREAL.  It's THE toughest job & physically demanding.  I remembering feeling that way just having 1 kid, then 2, but with 3, things have bumped up a notch.  I've learned how things just move so fast and you always have to be on your guard and ready BEFORE someone needs or wants something-- that's the only way to stay a float.

I've definitely had to learn to be more efficient in various areas of our lives to make use of time.  For instance, every night I fix all the sippy cups that Gavin and Miles would need the next day along with filling up B's bottles with 5 oz of water and dividing up her formula mix for each bottle.  It's one less thing that takes time when kids are crying and wanting things all at once.  I read on a friends blog a while back about cutting up all the fruits and veggies for the week all at once to save time prepping meals and making snacks available when needed.  That has saved SO much time for me.

I've started preparing our dinners, when the recipe allows, while the kids are napping.  I can USUALLY get Miles and Gavin to nap at the same time and it's 1000x easier not having them both under me when I'm cooking, not to mention Brooklyn always has a bottle around 5pm, when I'm normally cooking and I'm not interested in propping her bottle to eat so that's forced me to have to work through that issue.  Selfishly, I HATE cooking and prepping dinner while the kids nap, since I feel like that's MY TIME, but for now, the season of life we're in-- that's what I have to do.  I've even had to start choosing what meals I cook based on Brooks' work schedule, but then, that's only if his schedule works out and he gets to come home when he says he's suppose to come home.  I started doubling batches of recipes that can freeze easy and once it's prepared, I cook some and freeze the rest.  That has been a LIFESAVER on those crazy days or when Brooks says he'll be working late.  Who wants to cook on a night you know you're not going to have much help?!?  NOT ME!

As insane as moments during the days seem, life sure isn't boring and it can be fun chasing after 3 kids. There is a lot of laughter in this house and memories being made everyday.  Our kids seem to be growing up so fast, learning new things, and changing everyday.  As hectic as it can get, I truly do enjoy being their mom!!

It's funny, the other day several things happened all at once and I remember laughing to myself thinking this is so something you'd see on tv... mom looking like she's about to pull her hair out, toys everywhere, kids half clothed eating snacks, leftovers from the last meal are still sitting on the dining room table, and a kid is running around the house screaming or crying.   That's my life sometimes!!

For entertainment purposes, I thought I'd share some of our crazy, hectic moments with you.

Miles could careless about bottles and no, he wasn't trying to drink it himself, he just likes taking it from her.  Sadly, she was eating with her bottle being propped while I was doing something important, I'm sure.

Yes, sometimes I feed my kids their dinner while sitting in the kitchen sink naked, playing with the water faucet.  Look- he was hungry, I didn't have a towel nearby, and was desperately waiting for Brooks to get home from work to help me, so I let him eat his pizza just like that while Gavin ate his sitting on the counter tops.   Whatever works during the time being.  Sometimes, I just get in survival mode.

Gavin LOVES coloring and is learning to write his letters.  We practice on his chalk board all the time. We're also practicing learning that you ONLY write/color on paper NOT on the walls OR on the tile floor.  I will say this.... that was the best looking "G" I've seen him write, ever.

I'm really, really hoping he learned his lesson after spending almost 45 minutes cleaning up the tile floor that he decorated.

Check this kid out!  He's relentless.  The one day I decided he was doing so much better not climbing on the kitchen table and didn't turn the chairs over.  I went to the bathroom and came back to this.  Geez!

Mother's Day

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY.

If I didn't have 3 kids sitting on my lap in some way (literally we're ALL in one chair right now), I'd write some really sweet thoughts about our mom's and let everyone know how amazing and caring they are and how much we appreciate them.  But, for now, that's the best I can do.

I was able to download some cute pictures of my sweet, fun kids (earlier) who made my mother's day extremely special! I'm sure going to miss them tonight when I'm using my mother's day present Brooks got me.... a night alone at a 5 star hotel.. with room service, sleeping in, no interruptions, etc.  I can't wait to get some rest, take a break, and relax!  Thanks babe for my night off!

Gavin made me a cute flower at school and I put it inside the precious glass vase my friend Laura made me for mother's day.  I've also been enjoying the flower bouquet Brooks brought home for me, too!

There's a baby coming...

Our best friends the Sperling's are having a baby boy, Jacob, this summer and we're so excited for them!  We can't wait for him to get here and meet him and love on him!!!  Some girls and I got together and threw Steph a baby shower to help get her ready for Jacob's arrival.  We had a safari themed, dessert shower for Steph that was lots of fun!!

A few decorations:

The hostesses with Steph and all the ladies at the shower

In addition to Steph's baby shower... we decided to have a Man Shower for Micah and allow our husbands the opportunity to have some fun.  We told the men we were getting together to have dinner with our group of friends, but that wasn't all that was planned.  After we ate, we had them play Diaper Surprise where they had to guess which chocolate candy bar was melted inside the diaper.  They were allowed to use any of their 5 senses to determine what the candy bar was. The best part about this game was all the guys were actually tasting the chocolate out of the diaper.  They were competitive and wanted to win.

After the guys had a chance to figure out all the candy... next up was charades.  This was beyond words funny!  We came up with various baby/pregnancy/birth etc topics for them to act out.  The guys did not disappoint!  They were great sports about it and tried their hardest to allow their team the chance to guess the right answers.  Us girls watched and laughed!!

I think of all of us would say that the ultimate entertainment of the night came with Stroller Wars.  Between our group of friends there are 6 kids (going to be 8 by the end of the year) so we all have lots of various strollers.  We created a game where we laid out different strollers and put the guys in a circle.  The object of the game was to open and close the stroller the fastest before anyone else could.  Each rotation, there was a winner.  Each rotation began with arms up then a countdown to start.  Once you were finished you had to raise arms up, yell done, and the stroller had to be back in its original position.  After one round, the men started making up rules to ensure no one was cheating.  It was hilarious!   The best part was watching guys struggle to stand the stroller up or open it or not be able to unlock the lock button.  Some rounds were easy for the guys, depending on which stroller they had and other rounds were just torture for them.  We ended up having to do a sudden death round because Brooks and Jamie tied with the most rotation wins.  So, then, we lined up all the strollers and timed Brooks and Jamie separately to see who could open, lock, & close each stroller.  The guy with the fastest time wins!  I'm proud to announce that my hubby, the guy with the 3 kids won!!  Jamie was close though, so props to him!!

To give you an even better idea of how fun our night was.. watch these videos!!

Micah and Steph-- we hope y'all know how much you are loved and how excited we all are to be a part of this new journey in your lives.  Y'all are going to be AMAZING parents and we all hope to be a huge support and encouragement to you guys!  Hope Micah's ready to change some diapers!!
