In April, we drove up to Colorado and spent the weekend with Brooks' dad and his family. The main purpose for our trip was to say goodbye to Brooks' grandfather who passed away on January 28. The family was having a service to remember Grandpa Larry's life.
We were able to visit with Larry's wife, Grandma Jan who is in a nursing home, after suffering a stroke years ago. Grandma Jan has difficulty communicating and can't talk (only makes sounds) but while we were with her, I was determined to share stories with her and let her know what all was going on in our lives. Her mind is very much all there so I know that she understands what we're saying, just can't share back! She tries though! We used pictures and videos and she got to smile and laugh. She would hold onto our arms while we talked and very engaged. Our kids did great with her and we made sure they loved and hugged on her.
As sad as it was to be with family because of a funeral, it gave us the opportunity to spend time with Brooks' family who we only have seen a few times in the 10 years I've been around. Brooks got to see a cousin of his who is in the military and travels a lot and meet his wife and kids. It was a great time together and the best part was how well their girls and our kids did together! They all had play mates-- someone close to their age and were easily entertained!
The funeral was really nice. Very intimate and
Grandpa Larry served in the military so his service was recognized when he was put to rest. It was a very moving moment watching the presentation of the flag and the gun salute.
The rest of our time in Colorado was spent hanging out. The kids all played non stop together. We hung out with Brandon while he was in town and enjoyed the day of SNOW!!! We got together with some of Juli's girls and their families and just relaxed.
