Remember when I posted about us going to see camels one day? Well, our camel experience didn't end after seeing the momma and baby camel. Once we realized the camel farms didn't have camels on them, we set out in search for more camels and ones that we could actually ride. After a few phone calls to some friends, our driver headed to an area called Half Moon Bay where we were guaranteed to find ridable camels! Sure enough, after an hour and a half drive, a stop at Popeye's for lunch (yes, we found a Popeye's) we were on our way. As soon as our car drove up we were greeted by a camel and some horses and a pony. Gavin was thrilled and so excited by all the animals and couldn't decide which one to ride first. We all took turns riding the camel, which was an entertaining experience. The scariest part of the ride was the moment the camel stood up... he gets on his knees then pushes his hind legs up so you go from leaning really far back to leaning forward in order to get upright! AND when it's time to get off the camel, he does the same thing... he leans really far forward and makes you feel like you're going to fall off and you're just bracing yourself for him to sit down. Thankfully, there were bars to hold onto in the little cage they made on top of the camel.
Miles wasn't too sure what to think about all the animals, but his mind was made up the moment he got thrown from the camels head. Yes, he got thrown all because the dumb guy in blue put him on top of the camels head and when the camel jerked, he grabbed the camel instead of Miles. Brooks, myself, and our driver all tried catching him, but we couldn't reach him in time. He fell on his butt and cried for a short time. He was okay. I, however, was fuming! I was ticked. I decided to put Miles on the camel with me and go for a ride so he wouldn't be scarred for life and scared of big animals. It worked. He got on willingly and stopped crying once we were moving. He didn't like being so close to the pony though (see pictures below).
Gavin, on the other hand, loved EVERY minute of being around the animals and had a blast. He just jumped from one horse to another to a pony to a camel and so on. At one point no one was walking beside him while he was on a horse and he thought he was big stuff!! We had a blast riding the camels and made some fun family memories!!
